The great Curtis Clinton Smith had a gold-framed photo with a black felt background of John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy posed as if they were converging together in meetings to achieve world peace. This photo represents the byproduct of what would happen if poorly-executed artificial intelligence (AI) and Photoshop had a baby. But Curtis —or Granddaddy, as I affectionately called him when he was alive — was no different than most Black Americans who experienced the 1960s in her prime.
